Nuo Emotion (Dance performance by Beijing Dance Academy)
Time: 15:00-16:30, 3 February 2018
Place: Russian Cultural Center
Price: Free of charge
Nuo (傩 nuó) means 'exorcism'. The ritual is performed to maintain harmony by driving out evil spirits and disease and ask for blessings from the gods. Nuo was originated in China's central plain area about 3,000 years ago and was gradually developed into a ritual during the Western Zhou Dynasty (1046–771 BC) in ancient China. In such ritual, performers were believed to be able to communicate with Gods once they put on masks. They could inform Gods of people's admiration and their wishes for favorable weather, good fortune and healthy family. Nuo Opera was evolved over thousands of years and spread to neighboring countries such as Japan and Vietnam. Today, Nuo opera is one of the intangible cultural heritages of China.
