Chinese Ambassador Qu Zhe held annual gathering for the Riigikogu Estonia-China Parliamentary Group

On 21 November, Chinese Ambassador to Estonia Mr. Qu Zhe held an annual gathering for the Riigikogu Estonia-China Parliamentary Group at the Ambassador’s Residence in Tallinn.

In his opening remarks, the Ambassador gave an overview of the bilateral relations between China and Estonia for the past year. He was satisfied with the progress made in political relationship, business cooperation, people-to-people exchanges and cooperation within the framework of Cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European Countries (or “16+1” Cooperation). He expressed his appreciation to the Parliamentary Group for their consistent support to strengthening friendly relations between China and Estonia.

The Ambassador also updated the parliamentarians on the 19th Congress of the Communist Party of China that was successfully convened in Beijing last October. “The conference came to an important conclusion that socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered into a new era and the principal contradiction of Chinese society has evolved”, said the Ambassador. He pointed out that the contradiction for China today is between the unbalanced and inadequate development and the people’s ever-growing needs for a better life. “The Party Congress drew up a two-stage development plan for the period from 2020 to the middle of this century when China will be developed into a great modern socialist country that is prosperous, strong, democratic, culturally advanced, harmonious, and beautiful”, added the Ambassador.

As China will celebrate 40th anniversary of the launching of reform and opening-up policy in 2018, the Ambassador said China is committed in pressing ahead reform comprehensively and opening doors wider to the world. “China will continue to be one of the main engines to world economy in the years ahead. We are ready to work hand in hand with other countries to make global growth more coordinated, more inclusive and more sustainable”, said the Ambassador.

On behalf of Estonia-China Parliamentary Group, the Chairwoman Ms. Helmen Kütt expressed her satisfaction on the friendly relationship between Estonia and China. She hoped both countries will keep working together to further tap cooperation potentials in all fields so as to benefit both countries.
